Obituary of A. Thomas Stavola

Alan Thomas Stavola (Tom to all who knew him) died on February 24 at the age of 80 from Parkinson’s disease. Tom grew up in Wethersfield and lived there as an adult until moving to Glastonbury in nineteen eighty-seven. He was a UConn graduate with a degree in marketing, and was a salesman for Alan S. Goodman of East Hartford for many years. In his carefree younger years he was a ski instructor at Mount Snow in Vermont and even ran a ski lodge with a friend for one season. He met his beloved wife Susan Valine in 1971 and they were happily married for fifty-one years. He was always physically active and in addition to downhill skiing he enjoyed cross-country skiing, bicycling, running, hiking and, once a year, golfing at the Goodman Company outing. Always agreeable and frequently very funny, he made many lasting friends throughout his life. In addition to his beloved wife Susan, he leaves his sister Marilyn Dennis and her husband Marshall, his sister-in-law Sandra Sedorak and her husband Ron, and his nieces and nephews. And a cat named Simon, who consented to live with him but declined to sit on his lap. He will be greatly missed. A remembrance of life service will be held at the First Church of Christ Congregational, 2183 Main St., Glastonbury on March 15, 2024 at 11:00 am. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Contributions in Tom’s memory can be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation. For online condolences, please visit www.mulryanfh.com.
